WE ARE NOT TERRORIST, WE ARE PEACEFUL PEOPLE.

Each year the International Day of Peace is observed around the world on 21 September. The General Assembly has declared this as a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples. The United Nations Member States adopted the 17 Sustainable Development Goals in 2015 because they understood that it would not be possible to build a peaceful world if steps were not taken to achieve economic and social development for all people everywhere, and ensure that their rights were protected.  The Sustainable Goals cover a broad range of issues, including poverty, hunger, health, education, climate change, gender equality, water, sanitation, energy, environment and social justice.    Sustainable Development Goal 16 “ Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions ” calls for promoting peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, providing access to justice for all and building effectiv...

Poverty is driving a rise in the number of Nigerian child hawkers

Image
Child street hawking is common sight on streets in Nigeria’s cities. Children sell products such as boiled groundnut, fruit and chips that they carry on trays balanced on their heads. In recent months, the practise has been on the rise . The increase is the result of spiralling poverty and the worsening economic situation . The International Labour Organisation estimates that in Nigeria about 14 million children between the ages of five and 14 are involved in a form of economic activity . Globally there are 168 million children involved in child labour. Of these, 59 million are from sub-Saharan Africa. Child street hawking is one of the main forms of child labour. Others include children working at building sites or on farms. Nigeria’s population is estimated at 183 million with about 50% below the age of 18. There is a need for the government to make adequate provisions for education, care and protection for this group, if the nation wants to progress. ...

EFFECT OF POOR DRAINAGE SYSTEM

Image
Drainage systems are constructed to ensure that waste water and sewage is transported neatly to disposal points, thereby keeping the environment well drained and free of waste. Examples of components that make up a good drainage system includes; closed ditches having pipe drains, drainage pipes, channels and conduits. Sustainable Drainage Systems are approaches put in place to manage the water quantity (flooding), water quality (pollution) and amenity issues in the environment. Sustainable drainage is a concept that includes long term environmental and social factors in decisions about drainage. Sustainable Drainage Systems are intended to regulate surface water runoff close to where it falls and simulate natural drainage as closely as possible. They provide opportunities to reduce the causes and impacts of flooding, remove pollutants from urban runoff at source, and combine water management with recreation and wildlife. They also help to enhance water quality whi...

YOU CAN'T BELIEVE DIRTY ENVIRONMENT CAN CAUSE THIS.

Image
There is a wise saying that “cleaniness is next to Godliness”. We need a clean environment so we can live healthy lives and leave future generations a healthy Earth. There have been changes in the environment in every time period but the biggest and most negative changes are happening today. A lot of groups and people are doing everything they can to raise awareness about the importance of a clean environment and to make the environment healthier. Unfortunately, it is still not enough. The only way we are going to achieve a clean environment is if everyone works together to take care of our planet. A clean environment is essential for human health and well-being. However, the interactions between the environment and human health are highly complex and difficult to assess. This makes the use of the precautionary principle particularly useful. The best-known health impacts are related to ambient air pollution, poor water quality and insufficient sanitation. Our imm...
